Coming to you from the studios at the Illinois rock and roll museum on route 66. It's the rock and roll Chicago podcast Hey everybody, it's Ray the roadie and this is Hollywood Mike once again this evening. Hi Mike, how are you? I'm doing pretty good.
I'm miserable. Oh, no, it's what I'm having some malfunctions here with my program They got pills for that. I know they do little blue ones little blue ones.
Yeah, maybe your cream. Yeah So it's new and exciting, I don't know where we're going with this I don't either we've got uh, you know, we've got a I should say I've got an old friend in town I have a house guest this week. Okay later by the name We call her Queen Anne and she used to hang out at the jam at the uptown and playing field all the time Okay, and she unfortunately moved away to Albuquerque, New Mexico.
No, that's a long way Yeah, it is if you don't play in Albuquerque, you don't play anywhere. That's right, right? Yeah, she's uh, she came out to the jam last night at the studio, which we mentioned all the time You got up on stage saying with us in the whole bit cool And had a lot of folks travel from near and far. We had a guy from Ireland We had a guy from Lithuania.
So all of our listeners who are in India are number two market number two market Yeah, come on the Chicago. Hang on at the studio. That's right.
Even if you can't speak English, that's right Mm-hmm. I promise we're not gonna poison. You're not gonna poison.
We're not gonna poison. Oh, who would you poison? Well, maybe these guys in the studio right here who's here poison decree Oh poison I think it's the poisoned crew. So welcome poisoned crew Someone from Ireland I was just in Ireland were you really I just was I was jamming with a dude named Seamus In Ireland amazing Imagine you meet someone named Seamus, but I was on the street.
Oh, I'm on the street. It's his first time. I know be gentle Normally, I'm putting my mic towards somebody else's mouth and out here.
So anyway We're in Ireland I come out of my hotel and there's some dude playing banjo and there's a little like drizzle and I got my Guitar with me because it comes with everywhere Imagine that and we ended up jamming like thin Lizzy tunes in the rain with this dude named Seamus and I'm like Doesn't get any more Irish than that. I don't know at all Seamus the banjo player. That's pretty much Give me his last name.
Okay, Seamus. Oh banjo There you go, so why don't we start left to right why don't you tell everybody who you are what you guys are doing the band and everything else The mic over here, well, my name is Vince console and I'm actually the drummer in the band All right, that's drummer in the band, by the way. Yeah the best drummer in the band Yeah, this is probably this is probably the first time a drummer ever shows up with the least amount of equipment.
That's pretty cool Yeah, and we can get him off the guitar for just a moment, yeah, right My name is TD Clark, I'm a Gemini like long walks on the beach Chinese food yeah, I play guitar and keyboards and backing vocals and I do like long walks on the beach. Yeah, I was interested and he knows a badass banjo player. I know Seamus.
Oh banjo My name's Paul And I play BS BS BS BS. Yes. Now that's what you're full of.
But what do you play? He plays BS and poison the crew And I'm Bryant I'm the singer in the band I try to at least that's right He's the fifth best singer in the band fifth. He's sucking up to me tonight Wow sucking up tonight. That's right you know, I've actually seen you guys several times because you guys used to play quite a bit at a Bar by my house you guys used to play at hammers Yeah, awesome, well Bob and freak and you know They used to hang out there quite a bit and everything yet Yeah, Bobby's to tell me all the time you guys were his favorite band and I was like really let me go and check these Guys out and then I saw you guys and I was like really Didn't you guys just play didn't you guys just play a few weeks going Morris didn't you guys play corn fest or something like that Corn fest was last year.
We played this year. We played Ottawa Ottawa two weeks ago is what I was thinking of. Okay.
Yeah corn fest was Last no, I was the last corn fest. It was and it was packed. It was It was a year ago.
We didn't do this one. You didn't do this. You didn't do this year's corn fest We did like a year ago last September.
Gotcha. Gotcha 2022 and it was packed. I mean it was that was a great night That was remember they had the whole area fenced in and there was like a line I was like you have this you have a fence inside of fence I'm like it was it like it was a line to get in what there was very cool It's a very were you at were you at the Carson's tap or were you on the street somewhere during the for the festival? They had a stage outside, okay, so They had a special area like fenced off Right because you can't drink so you can't drink outside of the fence.
Is that what the soul? Yeah, like three years ago And the offense was that it was just to contain the drunk Corn fest used to be crazy. I heard back in the day and then okay kind of had to get it Yeah, yeah, you know no, okay what you were talking about is you're exactly right you had to be in the fence if you wanted to drink If you stepped out there was you know, the cops they're saying no you can't take it out But we played there on it was last year I believe we played my band played there on Friday and you guys I think maybe playing on a Saturday or I could have a Reverse but you guys were playing while we were out on the street at Carson's and then we you know We took a break and went down and caught your show over there. That's on it That's how I know you guys were guys that were playing over there.
No, and you still wanted to have us on this program Yeah, we did You know Charity show. I'm not sure what happened Still came back. We had some open time.
We had a Phil. Yeah Yeah, so how long you guys been doing this this thing Poison Crew has been together since 2011 I believe it is. Okay, so we've been doing this a little bit of time and We had to go through some personnel change and when we went through some personnel change, I think we brought we brought We brought Paul on board and then Paul brought TD Clark and then TD Clark brought Vince so well Wow, so the rest is all history on that.
I just so did all of that stuff happen in one year in 2011 or I don't know what year that happened. What do you think? What I'd say 16 Little while, okay 15 Yeah, Paul. So Paul calls me up and I told you guys earlier I have this solo band that does all original stuff and I only did originally for like 20 years I'm not even gonna okay now I'm gonna play I have my solo band the TD Clark band Vince plays drums it right We're doing Bay and all this stuff.
So this is just solo this all my original music. So Paul who I've known forever. So Paul we literally known each other since we're like 15 or something crazy like literally goes back that far, right and Paul calls me up out of the blue one day and he still had my Tom Skolls Rockman from 30 40 years ago and he's like Hey, I was digging out and I found this Rockman and then I'm going for this audition for this band They need a guitar player.
You want to come with? Oh Wow, so he gives me the Rockman back when I see him and like the batteries exploded in there like, you know, 20 years ago Right, right so and I wasn't really into the cover thing, but I needed to make some extra money because I just Gotten divorced and so Paul Paul is awesome. Paul's like why don't you come do this thing? I've since decided Paul's never taken me to Tijuana because he can convince me to do about anything Join this band and now you know, so I'm like we're never going to Tijuana and Yeah, it was crazy. I get to the first so the first rehearsal was funny.
I get there. There's another guitar player There's a drummer Different drummer than the other different drummers we had and so I'm I'm like I walk in and I Just kind of sort that like I don't know anybody other than Paul and I hadn't seen Paul in like 30 years or whatever so I'm like trying to sort out what we're doing exactly and So that rehearsal was kind of interesting and he's like, what am I getting myself in? Well, yeah, because I'm gonna get I'm gonna get into this band. I'm Auditioning for this band.
I'm like, mr. TD Clark auditioning for Poison Crew I'm like, you know, there should be jail cells in this room because I don't know what the hell is going on So I'm like we're jamming and there's another guitar player And so I get there and I was Paul goes where they knew this lead guitar player So I get there and the other guys like I'm gonna do this. I mean, I'm like, okay, whatever I don't even know anybody. I'm like fine.
We get like the third song and also the drummer stands up It's like you're not doing any more damn leads. That's why we got him here sit out over there and I'm looking at everybody like This wasn't Vince, by the way, it's just everybody Totally different look around we're not mentioning any names. I'm sure I'm not but I'm like What the hell just happened we get done and I look at him.
I'm like, what the hell? He's like, I don't know the next week I come for rehearsal. The other guitar player is gone and there's a new drummer The one and only Freaking story then I'm looking at Paul going like Okay, what did you really get me right so so was the band even looking for another guitar player at the time and you just dragged him along or were they He was actually coming in a sub, but okay. Yeah, that's a whole nother story.
We had a guitar player going on tour Okay. Yeah, we want to call it that. Yeah green gel came in to stop it changed our lights, right? Thank you Jesus.
Yeah Yeah, and it went from a to guitar band and then when the other guitar player left They said do you want to do another guitar band and I said, well, I'm not against another guitar player But how much does this gig actually pay and then I looked around and I was like I don't think we need to bring any more bodies. We can't even feed ourselves Right now I can afford a pack of ramen you bring another guy and it's a half pack a pack of ramen. Yeah Okay.
No way. Are we gonna go ahead and bring in anybody else? All right, right, right now Are you guys all from this Juliet area? Because I mean you guys all look familiar to me I think I've seen you other places not just on stage together Now Vince Vince wedding. I'm actually from way up north.
Oh, yeah chain of lakes. Oh, no kid. Wow Yeah, okay Yeah, nice little hour and a half drive for you today yeah down here We've been doing some more shows up our way.
So these guys are enjoying the hike to yeah, we're fair We're doing the scenic The scenic mural that is Illinois. Well, yeah, that's a funny story as I first joined the band. I think the first show I mean, where was that? That was South Grant Park.
So Grant Park drunken monkey is the first I remember my drummers first gig But I don't remember mine. It was like my first cover band. I've ever been in For one and then I'm going following my GPS.
I'm like, where are these guys playing going an hour in cornfields? Okay, if I'm going the wrong direction, I'm really screwed and I've just I don't know where is this little bar And there's a train track and these guys are all just wasted Massive green silos all over the place and The one Friends with the cops drinking a beer. It's like right out of like Cops drinking a beer going like which one of you guys am I catching for drunk driving later? Said we have a gig in Grant Park. I'm not lying I literally like pulled out my phone was like Oh Grant Park, Chicago.
This is gonna be a great gig, right? That's all I'm thinking right some and then I like a week before the gig. I'm like, so where we playing at Grant Park He goes no, no, no Grant Park. I said no.
No. Well, it's a big park. Like what part of it? Are we playing? No, no, we're playing in a town called Grant Park Yeah, it's like where in the heck is this I never even heard of such a place it was a nice place Yeah, I was all right owners were great owners nice people and everything, but I just I had no idea So the name of the club was Grant Park.
No, no, that was the time That was the town that it was the bar was drunken monkey the drunken monkey. It was in a bank It had that vault remember that vault He's got the guy said you gotta come back here and it was kind of like his green room for us That's pretty cool, right? No, and that was about 2011. You said I know that would have been that would have been 2015-16 One of those years because Vince had just started it Coming in with Poison Crew.
Okay. Okay. You've never been in a cover band before.
So what were you doing before Poison Crew? Just an original stuff. Okay, sign bands and stuff was in a Christian market for like 10 years Okay, sign band. They're just touring doing stuff and then and just playing with his solo band and stuff and touring with him Okay, so we're not touring.
He's like, hey, I got an opportunity for you make some money have some fun. Yeah Wait a minute. This is another one of your adventures man.
This is another get-rich-quick screen We have like five hours or 12 hours of all the crazy adventures. This guy has taken me out Yeah, and the drummer at that time the drummer at that time. He decided to leave the band on his own terms with us So yeah, so then I'm like a TD you got somebody that can play drums and he's like, oh my guy in my band I'm like, all right, bring him on.
Yeah, what do you think? So we get Vince in and Vince is like awesome killer drummer total rock just a little bit on the show In my solo band. He's amazing, right? so We get in the band and Vince and I are in the band like a month and when I get it I get a tour to go out with Ingvay Malmsteen to go support him for like two three weeks. Nice.
We call it Brent I'm like, um Vince and I have to leave for a while I'm like you're fired He's like how long is a while I'm like, well that's kind of to be determined but probably a couple months poor Brent I actually felt really okay. Well, I didn't feel that bad, but I felt kind of you should feel bad Right, but could we just get the band going and literally had to leave? Well Ingvay called, you know What was it? What was it like touring with him? We have done about 17 or 18 shows with Ingvay 10 or 12 on that tour and a bunch extra and here's the thing He's a genius, but I'm not sure he's ever really talked to us that much yeah, he kind of he kind of avoided chatting with us and I Mean he he was business casual Yeah Like he wasn't necessarily mean right but like I was standing like where you were walking down the hallway and I'm like, hey They didn't just looked at me Walking by and you know, and I was like about ready to drop to the ground be like I'm not worthy Right, you know, but you know, but everybody in this camp was great. I mean everybody Sure, sure From the stories that you hear about him You wonder if you would have dropped on your knees and did that would have dead Would that have worked out in your favor or against you because you know it I hear he can go either way either way in those situations Really don't know I just like Vince is right Their whole team was great.
And I mean I talked to his wife April and his son Antonio there I think they weren't they were there right? Yeah, I talked to them. Everybody was super nice And again, Ingvay wasn't he wasn't mean or anything. He just didn't really have anything to say.
Sure. Sure. It was focused, right? Right.
I mean and he's like, let's be honest. He's like a genius. So Right, yeah Types like that and it's like, you know, you they're just different you did that far ahead of the curve and something You're gonna be a little different, right? Yeah, Michael Shanker.
We've done about 17 shows 18 shows with Michael Shanker group and he's not exactly cat You know chatty Cathy either right? So right. I mean, he's nice enough, but he's you know, I don't his English is interesting I know I am Michael So Are you an original member or yeah, I'm the founder you are the founder Okay, so the only only person that been been around since 2011, correct, correct Amundo President So are you the only one in the band that actually woke up one morning and said gotta have to play poison songs the rest So So I was in I was in a original slash cover band back in the day and That band was called headwall and we did originals. I went to the city got paid nothing, you know I usually had to pay to park and by my bar bill and everything else you got paid 20 bucks Maybe divide that by four people and that didn't pay anything.
So but then it sounds like a poison crew gig That was back maybe in the day, but anyways, so something happened with the guitarist and my wife and I were having a baby not me, but my wife and everybody thought headwall was being Dissembled because of that and it wasn't that reason. I love singing and music and everything. So Some people said, you know you while we were doing the headwall thing.
People are like you should play Motley Crue we only had like one or two songs for Motley Crue and They're like you should have a more Motley Crue in your setlist your voice and everything else so when that Ended I Said alright, let's come up with poison and Motley Crue and I put the two names together poisoned from the album cover and then took crew and put that together and I put on an ad and I had some people join and we did some garage stuff and It kind of went from there and played a lot of small clubs bars Well hammers was a little bit of scale for us when I when we first started, you know So that was a little bit good for us, I guess. Yeah, so did nothing like the old strike and spare strike and spare So that's how we came up with the name Well, I came up with the name and they want to do like rattlesnake shake Who was I talking to about that? So they wanted to name this band rattlesnake shake. It's one of Motley Crue songs Sure, so I think that was the bass player.
I forgot his name Anyways, so I'm like now that's not gonna work cuz that's not I'm Rick. Yeah, that's right Rick So I'm not gonna I want people to know what you're gonna get when you come to a Poison Crew show You're not gonna get country. You're not gonna get Elvis.
You're not gonna get Mississippi Queen but headwall you got everything Papa Roach all the stuff and we tried to appeal to everybody and just didn't get that Following right. So I want to make sure we could get a following with this band, right and it's covers But sure sure. So I mean seeing bits and pieces of of your show.
I I haven't been there all night It's usually usually when I'm working someplace else when I pop in and see you guys is is it? Primarily just poison and Motley Crue or you mixing in other things from that genre By Jovi Guns and Roses ACDC Whitesnake Tesla, which we got to actually, you know play la guns Kicks we are one of our favorite tunes. I You know, I gotta tell you thought a shirt said la guns, but anyway, oh no After like four beers it's it's four or five beers. It says I like it.
Yeah, it's a La gun, probably a good 80. Why don't you percent? Yeah, I like that No, but I gotta say out of all those bands that you named Tesla is my all-time favorite band Tesla's probably the only band from that era that I still listen to should hang out with And go I've seen him like six times in concert. They're freaking awesome.
Yeah. Yeah Yeah Frickin Tesla saw him recently actually Yeah, we did see him recently Well, I'll tell you what since he's got the ADD over here with the guitar Why don't you guys hit us with one of them? Go ahead? So we're gonna do this. We did this during the COVID days and we got the unplugged Yeah, no, just go.
I'll talk real quick. You can get up. Yeah, we can just know we can do that We can take a pause, right? Yeah, we can take a pause here real quick You're listening to the rock and roll Chicago podcast, hi, I'm Rick Anthony I'd like to thank my radio brothers Ray the roadie and Hollywood Mike for allowing me to tell you about my podcast The someone you should know podcast we spotlight musicians authors and interesting people and we like to say we're making a difference one artist at a time The podcast is heard twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays and you could check it out on your favorite streaming platforms and on the web At someone you should know podcast.com. That's the someone you should know podcast with me Rick Anthony making a difference one artist at a time I'm Christy from crime cave podcast I've had a huge interest in true crime since my days of watching marathons of snapped back in the mid 90s I needed an outlet to talk about the cases that have haunted me for a very long time With each episode under 20 minutes.
I shine a light on some of the most bizarre cases in the last 50 years Join me in the crime cave I I There you have it poison de crew the coffee house cover Biggest crowd we ever played for That was You know what, you know as much as I love that song, thank you for doing it like that, you know We did this acoustic concert. Yeah, and we reimagined some of the songs cuz we're like, well, what are we gonna do? Just go do the same thing because I was we're still doing it. We did some of the songs like that Yeah, yeah, I know.
We're really I mean he said the video today of when we did it I didn't even realize we stole the video. It was really I was like, wow That's us Yeah, what happened we're real musicians Yeah, yeah, what am I gonna tell my mom? Yeah, when you when you when you see something like that of yourself where you've done something different, but you know Nobody's done it that way before it's almost like you're stepping outside of your own body and you're like, who is that? Oh, wow, that's actually kind of cool that worked out. Yeah.
No, that's good I'm glad you guys did it that way because you know But the one challenge about having a podcast and bringing cover bands in is okay They're gonna bring their instruments and okay great. They're gonna play the song. Everybody gets heard on the radio 10 minutes ago, right? Well, no, you come in and do a little bit different it You know, it gives a little credibility to we had a we had a band in here last week, man.
They were gosh Last week the two brothers the throwback the throwbacks the throwbacks. They did nothing but 1950s rock and roll just 1950s rock and roll three-piece band as if Green Day was doing it Imagine Green Day playing rock and Robin and Green Day playing, you know, California girls and stuff. It was great And what was cool about that cover band was They even told us that every every song that they performed involved some writing on their part and you can totally tell you can't just You can't just do Johnny be good the way Chuck Berry doesn't and expect it to sound like a punk song and that's exactly what they Did they changed it a little bit to make Johnny be good sound like a punk song So everybody out there jump back to episode 158 if you haven't heard it Yeah, we're promoting episode 150.
I just skipped this one Yeah, yeah, no I have a lot of respect for for cover bands that make the music their own, you know There's there's two schools of thought right? I don't know. How do you guys feel about it? But there's two schools of thought some cover bands are like we're gonna play the song exactly the way the song is recorded and then There's some cover bands that are like yeah, no CC the bill did that solo once before I'm gonna do my own I never played like, okay So I play these songs like kind of like they are but it's like him if you can imagine Eddie Van Halen and Yngwie Reimagining poison. Yeah, that's kind of how I approach these things.
Definitely a heavy Eddie Van Halen feel to where I'll do the rhythms and leads kind of almost like a new Nobettencourt feel to where I'm kind of splicing when I'm definitely not doing the Exactly. It's what these guys you're doing. Now.
There's a couple songs where the leads are kind of like They had to figure like like still of the night and even still the night I just I do that one like the lead by add a little more to it But like stuff like don't tell me you love me I do those leads pretty exact cuz they're kind of whatever Rock you like a hurricane things like this Yes, sweet child. I think you do you got it? You got to stay true to a certain key thing, right? But it's that in between the notes yeah have fun and If you will on whatever it is and I try to make I'll be honest like I'm trying to make it more exciting I think exciting though. That's one thing that we could talk about is our show is exciting I mean, we are fun on stage.
We all as you can see we all get along. I have these guys at my house I don't know how many bands actually, you know can hang out outside of right the business section or whatever being on stage, but We have a lot of fun with each other. We all gel together really nice I mean eight years of a band being together.
I mean we do the same people. Yeah It's and that's what you know And that's one thing I would say about this particular band and again I got to go back to the Van Halen reference because to me When I got in this band like if you I found videos of Van Halen at like Long Beach Arena or something 1982 or 83 and the place is insane people are losing their minds and the band is playing their songs, but They're kind of all over the place, right? Right, but the energy is Undeniable. Yeah, these guys are out of their damn minds wasted freaking out dwarfs on stage Eddie's playing Doubling up rhythmical parts David Lee's forgetting the lyrics, but there's a big party It's a big on stage to attack this band Yeah, so from my point of view, I want to make this a live show like that I don't have a whole lot of interest in recreating a Motley Crue show because quite frankly Motley Crue does it better than we do and they're still out doing it if you want to come to a high energy high octane kind Of reinterpretation of what they're doing, but totally fun and have some fun We relive like, you know back in there, you know when you're in the 80s hairspray and all that other stuff plus It doesn't cost you as much as a one of those shows, you know, yeah, that's right Not 250 bucks right a ticket.
I can't believe how much tickets are nowadays But I know it's it's in five bucks ten dollars or last week. It was free You know our show and in a lot of cases we pay the people to come in and listen to us You know Speaking of money, I do want to thank seriously all the fans that come out and see us I say at every show these people that come out they're spending their hard-earned money, you know coming on out Everything's gone up in price, you know, and they come out to see us We've got people that come from Michigan to come to Illinois that see us I mean some of the followers we have and it's it's pretty amazing We got people that got Poison Crew tattoos on them We got a couple of guys that have that stuff and it's it's but we appreciate I mean what they do and come out and that's We do we love them. Wait a minute real Poison Crew tattoos.
Yeah, like not no, it's not fake We're off permanent is real Poisoned Cruise. Yeah, I wonder how many times people We do have you know, it's you wouldn't believe it from looking at us, but we actually have a decent following Oh Especially if they're listening to us, you're probably like these guys can't draw flies in a bun But the truth is we have a really great following and Brent's right. They are so much they make the show But I'm not I'm not kidding like they really do I we say it Brent says at every show and even though I tease him And I mean it though.
Seriously, he does and he's right. Oh, yes without these folks. We don't have a job And well, we would have a job, but we'd be playing in nobody.
Well, I mean, what fun is that? When I'm doing dishes, it's hard to play guitar So when I'm in the kitchen doing the dishes, so it would be a lot harder to double as I'm doing right, right I mean, we really do and we get lots of people coming out and there's so much fun and We get to hear stories and their lives and everything else. So I mean, it's you know, it's an escape touches us You know and they tell us they come out to the shows, you know, most people look at as an escape, right? They want to come out here these tunes for any concert Right, they want to get out of their house. They want to hear something They would have a good time and I think that you know, we want to provide them with that good time That's us man.
It is. Yeah, I think so, you know, it's nice that people come out. It is true So you guys it is it is it's 100% true because it's you know The people that follow you guys around become your friends You might not see them anywhere else, but the shows but if you play frequently enough You're seeing these people several times a month and they become like your friends.
We have friends in Michigan The girls from Michigan so we met this band of girls from Michigan. We play Kalamazoo And it was like in front of 700 people this place was like we were playing with Rock show with rocks and they were the headliners They show up late he runs out of gas Paul runs out of gas The sound man we had professional sound people there like Bruce. He was Bruce Springsteen sound guy Professionals, they're like, where's your band at? I'm like, I have no clue.
I can't get old Yeah, I used to ride to the gigs with him hence why I don't do that anymore But there was a time when I rode to the gig there was a time There was a time not so long I rode with Paul to the gigs So I get in the van and we're driving and I noticed as we're driving that the the gauge was on empty And it's worth and I look at him and I go bro. Don't you think we get gas? It's like now the gas gauges broke. I just filled up.
We got plenty of gas Also, we're driving along in the car And I'm looking at him and also we start gliding to the side of the road we're in Michigan now Yeah, and I'm looking at him like gas gauges broke, right? I'm like so He decides he's gonna hitchhike to go get gas or no a truck pulls over picks us up I'm gonna stay with the van because it's filled with our gears. No, I'm late over to do his Yeah, so he takes Paul He takes off with Paul. So I'm standing there.
Well after sitting there and verbid I start realize, you know If anybody like decides they're gonna drift out of lane, they're gonna hit this van kill me and destroy our gear So I get out of the van and I walk down into the ditch and I'm waiting in the ditch And I'm waiting I'm waiting you ever seen that meme with mr. Bean where he's like in the cornfield He's picking stuff then he's sitting down next thing. No, I show him laying on his back. He's dead.
That was me often I see this pickup truck and With filled with like clearly migrant workers rolls up at the median strip across the way I can kind of see it and I see this crony do jump out of the back with a gas can So he's riding with the migrant workers in the pickup truck like chickens and there's a goat there and I'm still waiting at the Gasps in there. So then we go get gas we show up in the theater and they're like yelling at us Yeah, and I'm like, wait a minute you guys normally you yell at us after the show not before the show what's going on here? So they're all mad at us. No sound check.
No sound checks So we set everything up and they're all like Complaining and then the lights go down and we came out and we tore that place We were out of our mind and we walk off and I'll never forget this because this is the only time it's ever happened And and I got to give cred rock shows a great band, but they do like journey and stuff We just got done doing like the highest octane of whatever Yeah, my walk on stage and the singer looks at us as we're walking past him. He goes, how the hell do we follow that? Everybody was in their seats when we first started and everybody was out of their seats all in front row It was craziness up on stage so it was it was awesome forget when we all walked off stage It was you and then Vince and then myself and then Paul and the goat That was an amazing show, but it really was and it was I don't even know five seven seven years ago That was so crazy. How good that show we met friends.
It was chaos Michigan friends I became very close with some Michigan people up there. That's why we said that yeah, you know, it is so cool When you're when you're sharing the bill with another band that might be very similar to you or get often get mentioned and You know when you just kicked ass, you know, that's a We don't say it often but that night Tells you that you kicked You know, you're looking at him. We don't know these guys and by the way, they're a great band And they put on a killer show.
Oh, yeah, but it was like, you know, imagine like journey going on after Van Halen It's not that it's a bad thing because everybody loves journey who doesn't love and they were great But it was a definitely an energy thing. Yeah, you could definitely because kick-start my heart all this other stuff We were doing and then all of a sudden we end with home sweet home and then yeah, it was like, you know The whole place goes nuts So did you guys get any? Did you guys catch any shit because of the crap that everybody was giving Motley Crue about you know Accusing them of using tracks and saying Vince can't sing anymore Did you have people going out to your shows saying why you guys still doing this? These guys suck. Why are you doing their music now? Nope, nope didn't have any of it.
None of it. I've never been once approached about that I've been approached about why don't we play a kick-start my heart or dr Feel good that was in the set list one of the Motley Crue songs and we play like six or seven of them you know and we I think we play like seven or eight Motley and then Seven poison and then the rest is all the Guns N' Roses that kind of you know mix up stuff But and we play for it's usually three hours three and a half hours sometimes some of these places So, you know after we get done they're like you should have played, you know, not kick-start my heart That's well every once in a while. That's not in the set list, but yeah, they're like you should have played that song But we played all these other ones So if we get anything it's about song selection, right? But as far as Motley Crue and the tracks and everybody loves yeah, and they know come to a Poison Crucial.
We don't use tracks I Think just everybody over. Yeah, there's no one seen the issues with Vince Neil. So we actually open up for Vince Neil's soul Can't kiki.
Yeah We were told we couldn't do any Motley Crue stuff that evening and we knew why It was quite right ended still, okay, and we all met Frankie Bernali rest in peace that was Cool I didn't I didn't get to meet but you guys did. Yeah. Well the cool guys in the band got to meet Frankie But I was I was busy What you run a gas He is a really cool dude Frankie Bernali, he's really great I grew up I grew up in the Roselle Schomburg area Oh, so so I'm I mean I could literally walk across.
Yeah, I could literally walk to a world-famous music store I mean Roselle music was my it was my music store. That's right. All how many guitars? Yeah I can't tell you how many Famous people I met just walking in there looking at the guitars and stuff and Frankie was one of them He walked in walked in there and beat on some drums one day and I was like, holy shit.
That's him right there I mean it was at the height of Mental health it really was it was awesome to meet him Well back then if they were playing like Rosemount Horizon or something like that Yeah It wasn't that far away because a lot of times they play Rosemount Horizon or now to the to the kids these days The Allstate Arena right back where the horizons used to play indoor soccer but right I digress a lot of the bands would stay at the Hamilton Hotel over there in Itasca, which was at 53 and Devon maybe and right down the road from there right around the corner was Roselle music Yeah, if you need to go get some gear and you're at that hotel The closest music store was Roselle me right, right, right and that's what it all that's what it always was I actually took music lessons there for a little while if you were if you were a music student there You can go in whenever you want and just pick up whatever you wanted to play in the whole bit and they always had a Section set aside because they knew you know, so-and-so is in town, you know, they're playing Rosemount Horizon or whatever it is We're gonna have all this stuff ready to go because something's gonna break. Yeah, they're coming. They're coming to get this They're coming to get something.
So it was just a cool place to hang out It really was but but you know the the comment that I made earlier is reason for it I was actually talking to some members of some other guys that play a lot of hair metal I mean cuz you know one of the million other bands in Chicagoland. There's a couple other But you know I think it has a lot to do with You know the size of your following and the and the quality of your show in the whole bit because this particular band that I Was talking to it was the exact opposite. They're like, yeah, you know what we started playing, you know Kickstart my heart or something and they started throwing shit at us and it was like because it was right about the time where you know Poor Vince was coming under fire for not singing well and using tracks in the whole bit So I was just curious as to as Brent said there is no tracks.
Yes band. That's right While TD Clark is in the band There is to be no track. Yeah.
Yeah. Well, then let's hear let's hear some no track music Why don't you guys give us another one? You want to do? Tesla yes, please And We're gonna try this and do something new here this is this is going to be So count on it being more terrible than normal Ah Don't you worry, I know I Think you missed a note TD Clark I Tune them after the song is played. Yeah, it doesn't have to be tense.
Don't even worry That's the phrase that this band lives off of yeah, absolutely So, uh, where you guys playing? Uh, I guess finish out the year for us let people know where you're gonna be November 4th will be at Old Republic in Elgin. Wait a minute. Excuse me. I'm not supposed to say Eskimo Inuit can I dress up as an Inuit? So then most people call me something that That's what they say people are like dude, you're an idiot I'm like, I'm not a I'm not an Eskimo and then we got November 22nd, that's base camp black Wednesday.

Poisoned the crew. What's on the crew? our first French band Poisoned crew no, you know those guys were interesting and funny and Quite a little spin on the typical hair band stuff. Yeah, that was a that was much appreciated some great stories Yeah, God that guy can sing high.
Holy crap. Yeah again And that guy can play the 12 string. Oh my god.
Did you see that TD Claire? Oh my god I thought he was gonna tear his fingers open. I know and then I know it's hard enough to play six to let alone 12 Yeah, yeah But they're a lot of fun Like I said, I I've seen them several times before and they're I mean, they're really local for us I mean, I really guys live literally within 10 to 15 minutes away from here and Brent is my neighbor As we found out tonight.
