Coming to you from the studios at the Illinois Rock and Roll Museum on Route 66. It's the Rock and Roll Chicago podcast Hey everybody, it's Ray the roadie and this is Hollywood Mike. Hello, Hollywood Mike.
How are you today? I'm doing fantastic I'm having an absolute blast this week. I have been a been a strange been a strange week Yeah started off the whole weekend. I went to Arizona.
That's what you said. Yeah, I went to Arizona and cactus hunting or no No, no, I was there for my day job. Okay I was there for my day job and stealing intelligence and people, you know that, you know, hopefully anyway, but you know Scottsdale, Arizona.
Mm-hmm Because you know Scottsdale is just known as a as a Mecca of a place that has contributed to the music industry, right? Oh, yeah, all musicians want to flock to Scottsdale. Yeah, they have this amazing kick-ass museum They're called the musical instrument Museum really and and Monday evening. We was there for a convention we had a banquet where we were in a courtyard outside of This building and there was a concert going on inside the nitty-gritty dirtbang was playing inside Okay, and because we were there for this for this banquet, they opened up several of the galleries gave us all headphones We got to walk around and these exhibits are so cool You walk up if when you get close to the exhibit the sound bike for that exhibit starts to play Wow And this gallery where we were at like so you walk up to Prince's purple piano And then videos start playing of Prince playing that piano in concert playing Purple Rain on that piano I hope it is really cool.
And it was an interactive museum None of this stuff was behind a wall. None of it was in glass There was nothing on it that alarmed if you broke a plane or nothing You felt like reaching over and playing Prince's panel. You played Prince's panel.
Oh, that's nice It was like really freaking cool. That sounds really good. And you didn't know about this You just had no idea on this had no idea.
That's very cool. I had no idea In fact, I wonder if Ron went because we need to tell right? I don't know. I was just thinking about that still He should check that out.
Maybe we can use some of those ideas here at this museum I'll tell you it's that coolest thing you put on headphones and walk around is and you just get into the vicinity of the next Exhibit and it starts talking into your headphones. That's very cool. Very cool.
So well if you want to throw it back to me Okay, I can do that that that would lead us right into our guests tonight. I'll throw it back to you. Thank you It's the throwbacks That's Yeah, absolutely these guys you can't see him right now because we don't have our cameras yet No, not yet.
We have a wah-wah-wah in here someplace somewhere You can't see these guys, but they're wearing matching tuxedo t-shirts, they are Yeah, and on the way here, I was like, okay, who are the throwbacks, right? We gotta figure this it is So I went to like their YouTube channel where they've got a bunch of videos Mm-hmm, and I'm 20 minutes away and I was singing at the top of my lungs the entire Music that these guys are playing mission accomplished now. We did it. They're playing 1950s music like three-piece punk style.
It's kind of like got it. Exactly. It's kind of like offspring and Green Day meets 50s composers right exactly, right you absolutely exactly it high energy jumping up and down and they're fucking insane and I love You can even say yes Hold on a second easy, that's a dollar Introduce yourselves guys.
Yeah My name is Chris. I play bass and guitar in the band We do a little swaparoo and my name is Josh and I play bass and guitar in the throwbacks and we both do We're a three-piece like you mentioned oldies 50s and 60s rock and roll, you know with a little Modern twist to it. Yeah Just the three just the three dudes and we're actually twin brothers if you can I know there's the look He's right.
There's the look we always get it We're shitty twin brothers. He does think he's the Arnold Schwarzenegger. I'm the dandy It's not true, it's not true.
We've got ginger and Marianne in front of us I Separated at birth, that's right. That's what it is. There's another pair exactly like you somewhere That our parents have yet to tell us about we're gonna run into them on the street So what color hair do your parents have yes mom's mom's bread, okay, that is that is Bruno, okay So yeah, so okay, it makes sense.
I think hopefully I think so Yeah, when we were like, you know in our 20s and 20 21 22 We would go to bars and show our ID and you'd be like, oh, we're twins in the bartender be like, yeah Yeah, you know you show up with an ID you look like a baby anyway And then you show up and you have the same birthday people like no You need to find a better fake ID Look just like it. What are we talking about? So who's the third guy in your band you're your drummer, yeah, that's our drummer Brandon Just had a baby just had himself or he himself. Yeah times are weird, right? Seahorse, I'm a seahorse.
That's right. Exactly. That wasn't you know enough to speaking of another Arnold Schwarzenegger movie What was the one where you where you had twins wasn't it called twins? Yeah, I was Danny DeVito and you're talking about.
Yeah Where he had a baby? Yeah Three men and a baby. No Arnold Schwarzenegger is pregnant Thank you very much Was it called fatherhood? I don't remember It doesn't matter. I mean, it's not really yes in all honesty any movie where Arnold Schwarzenegger had a baby I probably blocked it out of my mind probably for the best Birthing scene burned into my brain somewhere.
Yeah, I don't mess you up Brandon Brandon just had a baby So he's wife had a baby. His wife had a baby Brandon and Angela and so he's kind of on paternity leave right now. Okay, so yeah Just the three of us not paid though.
It's not a paid paternity. All right, you know what I mean? We don't want no family medical leave act Not have great insurance health insurance. It's not not great You can imagine the health insurance in the 50s and 60s was not not great didn't cover a lot post-world war two men Just shaking it off.
That's right. That's right. That's why they were pacing in the waiting room.
That's exactly right smoking cigars How am I gonna pay for this So, I mean you're a fast-paced this conversation is going right now is very fast-paced it's absolutely It's absolutely no wonder that they play the type of music that they do in the videos that they put out in the whole bit I mean, they're pretty they pretty much talk in the same speed that they play the Got to tell you what I absolutely love it because when I was when I was younger I don't even know where it came from My my father belonged to some kind of club where once a month They they sent him a cassette tape Yeah, and there was something like 12 cassette tapes in this kit There's no and after you got all 12 They sent you this this case and they all fit in the case and it was like this album You know and it was all of the oldies hits 50s some of them going into the early 60s, but you know Yeah, it kind of stopped before the psychedelic 60s kind of totally 100% and I used to love that music I would drive around I was 16 years old My first car my little Dodge Omni with a cassette player and stuff in it and I'm listening to all these music and all my Friends are looking at me like you're an absolute idiot. Oh, yeah. What are you listening to stuff? God? I love the song rockin Robin, right? No I would I would just sing that at the top of my lungs and then after about a month of all my friends hanging out Cuz I was the only one with a car with a stereo system in it They're like, yeah, this shit's pretty cool.
And next thing you know, they're all coming over and they're trying to do all of these cassette Yeah You cover rockin Robin, so that's our new record is a good is a good say where our new record has rockin Robin on a Little bitty pretty one in rockin Robin. Yeah, I'm doing like a transition. Yeah, right I'm not as good at segues as you are rad.
I apologize for the slower slower. It's not great Yeah, so I have to ask so how old are you guys 36? No, I was gonna make him guess you are you? Yeah, we're different ages 36 They're twins, but they're different older me by one minute one line and and I got six inches on them Okay, yeah, so Yeah, one minute older 36 years old. So yeah it people look at us and they go like, you know, what's the deal here? Why why why is a 36 year old playing playing oldies, right Chris answer that question? We gotta have the same thing our folks Always had oldies tunes on we used to have all the same things like Beach Boys cassettes and Beatles Cuz that's what we rolled around to it So like right our whole childhood was doing, you know, little deuce goop and everything like that and yeah Literally, I mean we have dick beyond II right behind us on the wall Rest in peace honest to God one of our true like radio heroes like in a really weird way like we used to you know, oldies 104.3 was our Sitting in the back of the car listening to him talk and and putting in requests and stuff like that And right and so, you know when he recently passed that was actually like a big blow for us for 36 year olds to Like yeah, but yeah, so so our parents would listen to that and you know, Chris and I Used to be in like a you know an originals pop punk band and when that kind of faded away we're like What's a criminally underserved? genre and so we Put put those two things together of like hey We love the oldies and you know, most of what you hear when you go out about is 80s 90s 2000s top 40, you know and right and then once we started getting out there and and performing these songs people like, you know, I Originally, I didn't think oh, I don't I don't know all these But then as soon as you start playing people go no, I know that song.
I know that song. I know that song, right? I've heard it my whole life and and yeah, so that's and people don't realize it either I think you know I think those lyrics are you know kind of passed from generation to generation through osmosis because it's like you're right You just know it. You don't hear the stuff on the radio Right, you know the words to all those Rick and so right all these oldies in Yacht Rock.
Yeah We were having the conversation We go we go right next door our favorite place after the podcast right next door Hang out for a little bit and talking the bartender over there loves Yacht Rock and I never bought any of those albums, you know You know the words to every single one of those songs Guess what now you got to start a Yacht Rock band a Yacht Rock, you know punk challenge except There's a one bit. There's like a huge Yacht Rock cover band. Yeah, but nobody's doing nobody's doing Rock you and There's something there punk yacht yacht, but yeah, there's a few of them out there.
Yeah. Yeah, that's it. Not a bad idea You better write that Some of the bigger ones out there you got the Ron Burgundy.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah the FM.
That's how I was thinking But yeah, they don't do it in your style no Well, I would love to hear one of those Chicago style You know Lakeshore Drive type kind of songs that are normally slow and mellow just do it punk style, you know Listen all right, we we gotta go home. Tell the wives like hey, we're gonna start another band. Yeah You know, you don't even have to do that.
Really? I mean, I you know, they call John Mellencamp oldies nowadays. That's true Yeah, they play yeah, they play a John Mellencamp songs they play they play Huey Lewis and news and all that kind of Anything from the 80s is oldies now listen, yeah, Mike I'm not gonna lie to you every time we go we show to a bar and like all the throwbacks cool like 80s Are you guys doing 80s tonight? You're like way back 70s. Yeah.
Yeah Before that. Yeah music. Do you remember the Cuban Missile Crisis? I mean you do realize 1980 was 43 years ago.
No, it's not great. It's not great So here's so yeah, that's it's one of those things that like Back to the Future The movie was about 20 years ago, right? So so if we if we did Back to the Future today would it be about 2003? So it's like oh my god Well yesterday was George Jetson's official birthday. Is that true? Yeah, he would have been.
Oh, I think I knew that actually Yeah from the way he was Yeah, whatever he was in the show That's wild. Oh, man. All right.
Well, that's it. Yeah, I don't know where we're going right now I don't know. I'm sorry.
You know what I think we should do which is our speed Sorry, they should play something because I have no idea where we're going. I think we should do it. Okay, let's take a little break here Yeah, we'll be right back.
We'll do it You're listening to the rock and roll Chicago podcast I'm Christy from crime cave podcast I've had a huge interest in true crime since my days of watching marathons of snapped back in the mid 90s I needed an outlet to talk about the cases that have haunted me for a very long time With each episode under 20 minutes. I shine a light on some of the most bizarre cases in the last 50 years Join me in the crime cave Ladies and gentlemen for the first time tonight on the rock-and-roll Chicago podcast. It's the throwbacks This world My What I tell you yeah balls of fire That is some high-energy fiery balls Those balls don't get fiery But I'm fun though, yeah, yeah, I know I'm hardly ever at a loss for words, but I'm We got to check you guys out by the way who Do you have a band right? Yeah.
Yeah Yeah, we checked you guys out. Did you really holy? Oh, yeah, you came out to a show you're sitting. Oh, yeah We said we saw some of your videos.
Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, you guys are so much better than oh my god Then we cover some of the same stuff and we don't have horns and and it is like wanted horns for so long and it just Changes the get it changes the feel and it changes the time Oh, but yeah, but you put see I don't think you guys should change the feeling Yeah, I do admit it is a lot of fun to play with with horns And it's really cool to be able to say hey We're gonna cover this song and there's horns in this song and we've you know And now we're gonna do it and it sounds like the recording and everybody has fun and everybody recognizes it But I also think it is so freaking cool the way you guys That's that's that's your shtick that's the way it's gotta say yeah the horns in the yacht rock band, that's right That's a great point But a good horn section is not an easy thing to come by.
No, it isn't but you know, gosh There's all kinds of things going around in my head because you could bring in the yacht rock thing And if you really want a horn section do it stripped out but get something like a trumpet player Just get a trumpet player. Just that's You got it exactly right you got it exactly, you know Yeah, so we definitely grew up, you know Like like the band Chicago was a huge band for us growing up, too And so then we transitioned to like, you know We love like real big fish and less than Jake and like, you know, some real Scott like Chris is a real nasty Scott guy Yeah, that's what they usually say about Scott That's usually the primaries Yeah, yeah, so yeah to your point though, we just checked you guys out and really love Yeah, we'll figure something out we'll get a show together. I'll be wild Yeah, we do.
Yeah, you know, we try and do something every year where we we get a couple of our friends in there And who knows maybe we can figure it out. Oh, yeah, it'd be a good week. I think we're friends.
You guys would be a good Good fit you familiar with Tailgaters over in bowling. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah, of course.
Yeah. Yeah. So like, you know once or twice a year You know, we'll get a couple of their bands and we'll believe we'll do like oh like a three or four band night Maybe phenomenal you guys do it be a fantastic fit.
That is phenomenal. Amazing. Yeah, one year we had Rosie in the rivets Which oh, yeah, we we know Rosie really well Rosie in the rivets really well Yeah, cuz what's interesting about that like oldies kind of Chicago land cover scene, right? It's what the cover scene itself is small, right? Of course, you know, we all know each other or you know somebody you're one removed if if at best And so then shrink that down to the oldies and like we're well, you know, everybody knows everybody you guys had shookin in the Ramblers They do he's in black bolts and we played a bunch of shows with those guys like a great oldies band.
Yeah. Yeah Great. Yeah good.
Yeah, it's like you said, you know If you're doing this and you want to be as professional as possible, you know, you pick the professionals. That's right Yeah, there might be great musicians out there, but then they don't show up or they show up later What do you do you tend to go back keep going back to the That's all you see five six bands are like wait, he was in the band Our problem is that we just started we stopped having friends to be in bands with like we used to be in a four-piece band with a bunch of different people those people that Were to three P. Did you just run out of friends is really what comes out? Well, you guys scared a shit out of them They're out of here 24-7 So I can only imagine Imagining you two guys young kids you said, okay, we're gonna start playing instruments, right? Yeah, both went to your parents at the same time because that's what twins do, right? Very close. Yeah The lore I think is that I was watching in sixth grade.
I was watching this kid play Purple Rain speaking of Prince My mouth jaw was hitting the floor. This kid is my age and he's destroying our guitar And I'm like, I have to play guitar. So went home told parents.
I want to play guitar. They say great We went to Sam's Club got me the world's shittiest acoustic Chris started hearing me playing Yeah, and then yeah, the rest is the rest is history. And then yeah, the the the vocal stuff is probably the more The thing that we focus on a lot as well, right? we both did, you know choir in school had music lesson music lessons and vocal lessons and Spend a lot of time just going like okay.
I sound like this you sound like this, you know, how does that fit? Yeah, I'm focusing on like harmonies and finding you know, the right ranges for our stuff And yeah, so that's that's just the kind of the lore of that how that went down. Yeah Yeah, I'm being distracted by a family of ghosts walking. Oh my god Are we supposed to act like we can see them? Okay.
Yeah, we're not supposed to be able to see him. What are we waiting for? I don't see any ghosts I just need sunglasses walking around. Yeah, we're being filmed, too Go back We are we are being filmed Yeah, we are here at the Illinois rock and roll Hall of Fame and Museum and that of course everybody knows That's where this podcast absolutely They are having a Halloween Festival here in downtown Joliet people are walking in seeing the museum for the very first time and we have a family of ghosts Just peering through the glass over here.
Yeah, this place is haunted. This place is haunted alive, right? Yeah, it really is amazing. It's buzzing even though the ghosts are alive.
Yeah Ray dammit Ray I was How fast you I was one second behind you I consider myself fast you were right there I don't hold back. I like it. Yeah, this place is amazing So stepping in here for the first time and yeah, I'm really getting like the vibe I mean just the the giant guitar on the outside you pulled on the street and you go It's like you have to pull over and be like what's going on in here Run the cheap trick and I mean it just you know, what's going on the second you pull up this place is it's incredible I guess so we're we're northern suburb guys, right? Where'd you come in from Arlington Heights? Northwest suburbs so yeah, I mean For us it's it's a bit of a hike to get down here.
But whatever and I think you this this place has a huge draw I mean, it's crazy to to drag people down from where we are I mean, it's like guys you have to come see what's going on here This is this is insane, right, right plus I mean you guys are into older music and yeah but it's kind of funny because I Meet people who are your age like between mid 20s and mid 30s and imagine the Blues Brothers and like who? Oh, we we live in We talked about doing jailhouse This seems like the right way to do it. I mean is you're right down the street from the prison Yeah, that was that was in the movie Yeah, we can drive you right to the entrance like the beginning of the movie where we might have to do that Released from prison So the history down here is great that the Blues Brother was the Blues Brothers was like a formative Movie for us. I'm like so like we worship Dan Aykroyd specifically but like John Belushi and and that introduced us to Aretha and just the you know The the caliber in that mood and like so our wives Don't care You guys can't and then we're always like we're our constant meme is like look if we could just get the check We're gonna we're gonna write it out on the dash on the dash Yeah, yeah, yeah, you guys are throwback.
Yeah the throwback boy Yeah, and they probably don't get the you know the the spinal tap quotes or I think the more you play the less your wife cares about So Is your wife just as unimpressed by your talent and and you're the thing everything that you do yeah, yeah, yeah, pretty much Yeah, yeah, we were leaving tonight, and she was like We have to explain like being 36 and being dads of young kids We have to explain like what it is we do to people who are like financial guys and like yeah What do you work for a bank? Oh? Yeah? I play in a band. What does that mean? I'd rather not If I have to explain Exactly we play oldies like 90s We play both kinds of music So have you guys always played together in a band or you know as coming up a good question great question That's right for the most part I Probably we used to play in a band together in high school with a bunch of buddies And then I did a different band yeah You weren't in a band for a little bit right and then we did it you know the pop-punk band or whatever for a little Bit together, so it's for the most part. Yeah, most entirely yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah Yeah, it's it's it's kind of one of those things that like if if he was doing it I wanted to do it and vice versa.
You know it was it's just it's part of being a twin It's part of being it's a twin thing. Yeah part of being a musician It's part of like you know like oh you go I go I would I went to like one of his shows, and I was like why the fuck am I not up there? This sucks is a throwbacks to the longest project you guys been together with him I know the American art was way longer, but we're coming up on it I think this is by far the most successful Okay, the most profitable the you know the like the the thing that has the most appeal I think I heard you say in a or maybe I don't remember who was but on a different episode you were like you hit 35 And if you're in it you're in and I was so right I was gonna make a little bit of money, and then you know the family goes, okay? We get what you're doing or what I was like right? It's incredible I get money like yeah like you find your dudes, but if you're 35, and you haven't figured it out yet You're not gonna yeah, and if you have then you're then you're in for life. That's exactly right Yeah, because you're just you're at that point You're you're old enough to be tired totally but not old enough where you don't want to do it anymore Okay, I got four guys or five guys that I absolutely love playing with them.
You know what he's an asshole But yeah, I don't have the time the energy 100% yeah, that's right Our poor drummer Brandon, you know we rehearse every single week and We're twins, and we're in the same bet and so like sometimes. We just fight like brothers You know and he just takes it back. He's like these fucking guys Like I'll wait till it's over Yeah, yeah, yeah, how long is this so we formed in 2015, okay? 15 yeah, so and then our first show was like 2016 we played the Liars Club in the city, and it went First show that you know as as you know it's right.
It's a Right you know have you ever played out right? Yeah? Yeah, so yeah, I mean years ago. Yeah, yeah sure sure I mean, but you know like like okay. I think we got it guys, and then you get on you're like nobody's Cut all of these Who books you guys you go through booking agent are you guys doing it yourself? Yeah, it's a little bit of both So we have Tom over at UAP He's our main guy all right.
He's he's been working really hard for us. We've done some through United We've done some through double D. Yeah, but and then it's and then it's just like you know the cold calling you know I always describe it as like I Were effectively out there applying for jobs Every resume look what's your resume look like 100% yeah like yeah It's and then we dress like this to the interview which actually always goes really well like thanks for dressing up You could just get us in a room. Yeah, I promise you you'll get it.
Okay. It's like the scene from stepbrothers They show up for the dual job Was funny but now I think it's weird No, but the way they the way they sold it. He's like yeah, you know to my teeth.
I taste onions Yes What about you guys are how are you doing most of your booking you know the cattle that groove is Tom Dixon our drummers band pretty much talking about Yeah, I mean he he's out there hooping it I mean if he books if we have 75 shows in one year. He's he books 65 awesome. Yeah, that's good That's awesome.
He's the guy you need one you always need somebody that's yeah What do you find what do you find to be like the most or? What does he find to be the most the most success rate that he sees with like booking like to go like you know? You know the cold call I'm gonna I find the guy and then I email him and he does I don't want to answer for you But I think it's being a talented band Necessarily true is that true okay, cuz I know we're not so that's why we usually get the no That's why we get some shows. Yeah, I mean think about think about how many times You've gone to one of the best clubs in Chicagoland, and there's a band up there on the stage, and you're going Are they new at this yes? They've been around for like 10 years It's because they don't take the time to rehearse or you know everything up in the whole bit But no, I you know I think what made us successful That was you know Tom was great at networking He was really good about you know going to these trade shows that would go on and where you get all of the people from There is that you know that yeah the one overall in displays the spraw event I just I just did that displays. Yeah, and there was there was one I think it was the same organization, but it was like a Southside one Oh, it was right over here on Weber Road Oh, yeah, and crest Hill which so much closer for us and everything and once we started doing those kind of shows And our phone started ringing It's just shaking hands and handing out business cards and like tell me what you do tell me who you go through yeah Can get in face that and then it's and then it's totally networking who you know It's and and sometimes those shitty bands know the right person is like right.
What's happening up here. Yeah Chris goes to festivals all the time, and he just gets angry right Just always send Josh videos. I've gone like oh god these guys are awful Yeah, yeah, yeah, I think people nowadays have gotten too dependent upon the internet You know they think they're gonna put together some kind of video on the internet They're gonna put stuff on a jump drive and they're gonna go and hand this out and everything and tell me and they have a Business card.
Hey, I have a band. I want you to book us. Okay great Well, we're gonna see what you do, and they hand them a business card That's it that person's gonna go on to the internet take the next step.
Yeah, I don't have time for that no Give me something you know you know give me something else totally don't rely on social media for sure yeah I think one of the other things that's helped out lately is all of a sudden open jams are everywhere. Mmm. You know it's Things kind of changed You know we always talk about how things change through Kovac and throughout the Kovac years the only band the only places that still had Live music were the place that had outdoor venues.
Yeah, they weren't hiring bands, but they were hiring acoustic solo acts or yeah Yeah, things like that as it started to pick up again rather than hiring bands people started thinking you know what I'm just gonna Have a jam night And I'm gonna pay one guy a hundred bucks to run it and I'm gonna have 16 bands in one night Yes, it's like a literal showcase yeah And you know they're getting back to the old days where you know musicians are showing up to open jams It might be one or two people from one band they get up there And they kill it and the bar owners coming over to him and saying hey, what do you have available? That's that's wild that's because that's a great tip it really is yeah I mean, I've I've got a side project my turn the still masters. We're a Texas style blues band No, hell yeah, sometimes. We're a three-piece so when you're a really good guitar players what you're saying.
I'm not saying that When you say Texas blues yeah, yeah, yeah, it's good. Yeah, no see I think you're talking about Stevie I started when I was a young child, and I wanted to play the organ I'm actually one of those guys that we talked about earlier where you'd show up at a great club, and there's this crappy band up That was you guys But I mean that has worked wonders for booking that band for me And I was thinking I mean you guys are three-piece So sneak up anywhere, and how refreshing would it be you show up someplace where most of the people you go to a jam? Yeah, it automatically turns in the blues. Yeah, everybody knows the Scale right that's the best, but you show up there, and you do what you do the doors off you yes Everybody would go freaking nuts.
I swear to God yeah We always describe ourselves as like a musician's band because like I feel like a band a band's band Yeah, a band's band like you guys would show up and be like oh this rules Something some people showed me like this is a lot It's a lot to just to talk to him listen to him play music. Yeah, we do get the like occasional we played it Mickey Finn's up at Libertyville or whatever and there's like a 21 year old kid that was that like they played Sam cook We play wonderful world, but he came up. He's like hey.
Do you guys play chain gang? You're like how is it that you why do you know that? Know how to how to do it. I wonder people look at us the same way, though Like that's exactly right like that's exactly said yeah, look at that. I can't hold you guys You just don't even have pubes, and they're playing yeah, they're playing 80-year-old music get that a lot You guys are nuts.
I think I really sorry Have you guys played down south anywhere around here? We've played I'm Morris Morris, okay, yeah, we did we do the corn fast Wildtime things get rowdy down down there all they do yeah, they do there's tractor parking I think if you're parking the tractor you're you're in for a long night, but that's just Jim. Yeah, Jim the tractor Yeah, I bet you guys did well in Morris because you know what I what I love about them We played you know Cadillac groove plays Morris and Dwight and places like that nice quite quite often and Booking agents think well just because they're down south somewhere right just because this is it's a town in the middle of a bunch of cornfields They automatically think they want country and Western music out there It's true and then when when a band like yours would show up or when Cadillac groove shows up playing rhythm and blues and with a horn sections The entire the entire town of Morris just comes on yeah It's it think of it from like a from like a just a guitar perspective, right? So like you they always say like tone, you know is this thing guitarists always chase, but it also doesn't matter six It's six seconds in it just sounds like a guitar Same thing with country right everyone's like I just like country you like the sound of the moment something switches, right? And you're like oh, I hear something different. I'm right switched on.
I'm liking what I'm here So yeah, I can imagine you guys crushing. Oh, yeah, you guys should check the check it out. Yeah Yeah, you guys do real good at a place called Cherry Red Roasters and Dwight Cherry Red Roasters Yeah, I knew I brought a pen and paper.
This is gonna an education. Thank God. This is being recorded.
Oh It used to be like an old like a like a like a truck dealership or something Oh rock and roll guy bought it and turned the service department into like into like a banquet facility Oh very cool rockin out back. We're like the used car lot was they put in a beer garden? Got this Roadhouse bar on the other end of what the dealership used to be with a nice stage a good-sized stage in the corner That's a while, and you guys would have a blast. Yeah, that's a place in there.
Yeah, that's that's what I mean yeah, we definitely do well the places that are like You can be loud and you can drink and we can just like dance and have a good time and be rowdy It's because people don't know what do it's we show up in tuxedo t-shirts. Yeah What what is this And then we usually open with satisfaction into great balls and what those two back-to-back great balls of fire Going back sometimes you just got to be way more clear on what you're talking about. Yeah And then it moved the podium there.
They are Believe the reaction It's outrageous and then it's the third song and the police are there and you know, but but I feel like we are we There's low expectations for people in blue tuxedo t-shirts to come. Yeah, like we you know, it was to your point It was like it's a shtick like initially. We're like something something that makes you stick out a little bit Yeah, we originally was like, you know You go to like it like an old-school vintage prom and everyone's wearing like nice tuxedos and we're like I can't sweat in that all Day, so I'm gonna wear this But then you show up and it's like no we can play and we can and we can sing and we can dance and we Time and you know, I got the t-shirt thing right away first video.
I saw I was like, oh my god bands from the 50s They all were matching suits. That's exact BAM. We tried it.
We tried we just pitted him out and we're like, what's our what's ours? Shitty suit budget gonna be Blue velvet suits that we're just gonna a pile of them in the corner. This is perfect. That's perfect Oh, yeah, we burn through a few of these Percy.
Yeah Sure, it's fine Great. So I think what we need to do is we need to talk about where you guys are playing next Yeah, so talk about talk about that. And then what we're gonna do is we're gonna have you probably play us out Yeah, we'll definitely do it.
We're on paternity leave right now. So right we're actually usually our season ends in October November But there was a baby in August So, you know, we only had one or two shows since then and then we'll pick back up and we just put out a record Called shake my nerves and so it's got 10 tracks on other of all oldies covers. So we'll do LP to Chris Why would a why would an oldies band want to put out? Why would a cover band put out a record? Because we play them Uniquely, it sounds like a bad QVC pitch.
This was your the you pitched the record to me So I'm helping you I'm letting you pitch to the people. Yeah, so they can hear us. I don't know It is out now.
Yeah, it came out two weeks ago three weeks ago. Where can people get it? Everywhere Spotify music Apple Music YouTube, you can see our videos up on YouTube We try to do music videos for all the songs. We try to do live streams during the winter We did a couple live streams where we just did individual bands.
So we did a whole Elvis live stream an hour long We did boys live stream I don't know anything else. We were working on, you know Beatles and we're working on stones and we're working on. Yeah The main thing we're doing right now.
It's kind of our offseason. So we're definitely We are as DIY as it gets so we so we literally recorded that whole record ourselves You know had it mixed and mastered by the good the good folks at way sound up in Fox River Grove But but yeah, so it's time for LP to you know, the wheel doesn't stop turning neither do we so we're just we're hustling and we're Trying to book now for next summer And and hone our craft, you know, I I think there's there's something for us. We don't have the luxury of Just going hey guys listen to these 20 songs and we're gonna play those 20 songs.
We we have to Write on every song that we do sure, you know, we do like our own stuff to him So we have so when we're in our offseason, we're honing our craft. That's what that's what we're doing. Excellent.
So yeah So that's what that's right now You know, we'll have a lot of show announcements coming up We'll probably play a few throughout the winter, you know, just here in their bar shows But but yeah, we hit it hard usually we don't summer would do like 30 shows or whatever like our summers packed But yeah, we like to take the winters off man. Yeah, you know, so we're touring in Chicago Where can people find you if they're looking for the throwbacks? Where do I go? Yeah, the throwback Chicago comm I'll get you everywhere. You need to be.
Yep, and then but we're also on Facebook Instagram YouTube we can't figure out tick-tock tick-tocks for children. We don't do that. I don't understand it Yeah, they feed me all sorts of weird stuff.
I'm over it and I'm over tick-tock tick-tock made you doing. Yeah. Yeah, that's right That's right.
Well grab those guitars. Yeah, we'll do it guys out of here We're gonna take a quick break here and let them get settled. You're listening to the rock and roll Chicago podcast.

I mean, it was just so fast. Holy cow. There's a lot of fun That's exactly the energy that those guys have on stage watch their watch their videos I know we're probably gonna have a couple like that, but watch their videos go out and see them live even better They just they don't sit down.
They don't stop moving. No, no, and they bring that energy here. They brought that energy.
Yeah It's just go go go, you know And it explains it that they're twins because they sing and perform exactly the way twins speak they finish each other's sentences, right? That's what they were doing. They were going back and forth Singing the different parts of the song just going back and forth I don't finishing each other's thoughts and they said they said they told us later later on that when they're on stage they switch guitars Yeah, they do mid mid show mid show switch guitars. Yeah, that's that's pretty cool.
Yeah, pretty cool I'm really looking forward to seeing well, of course, we can't see until next year now unless they pick something up in the winter That's right, because their drummer just had a baby.
